Kinstone is a modern megalithic site on the bluffs above the Mississippi River in Buffalo County. “Modern” means it was built recently (began in 2011) and “megalithic” means that it consists of very large stones. Blending art, nature, and ancient designs, it features towering standing stones, stone circles, a labyrinth, a dolmen, dry-stacked stone sculpture, and hand-built structures like a thatched cordwood chapel and straw-clay cabin. Visitors can walk nearly a mile of mown grass paths to explore many stone features, 2+ acres of planted prairie, alignments tied to solstices and equinoxes, and experience a space intentionally designed for peace, reflection, and connection with the land. A unique destination for nature lovers, stone lovers, spiritual seekers, and art enthusiasts alike. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours – there is much to see plus there is a lovely gift shop and reading room in the Visitor Center. Open seasonally. Admission required.
